Concrete is a simple, strong surface that can be broom-finished, stamped, stained or exposed. How it is poured matters more than how it looks.
Concrete is the workhorse of hardscape. Poured in place, it makes smooth, continuous surfaces. Stamped and colored, it can resemble stone, slate or brick. Exposed aggregate, brushed finishes and saw-cut patterns offer more choices.
Concrete performs best when the base is firm, the thickness is right, joints are placed to control cracks and the surface is sealed. Because it is rigid, it can crack on poor soil. We prepare carefully, and we talk honestly about expectations, since hairline cracks can occur in any slab.
