Outdoor Kitchen Construction

Built-in grills, counters, sinks, refrigeration and pizza ovens in a durable, weatherproof island or L-shaped layout.

An outdoor kitchen takes cooking out of the house and puts it where the party is. Grill, counter, sink and fridge in one weatherproof island mean the cook is part of the conversation rather than stuck inside. It is also one of the most used features of any outdoor living space.

We build outdoor kitchens on proper footings with framed or masonry islands finished in stone veneer, stucco or tile, topped with granite, quartzite or concrete. We plan gas, power, water and drains with qualified trades, and size the layout to your cooking style and how many people you entertain.

Layout and work triangle

A good outdoor kitchen has counter space on both sides of the grill, a prep surface, storage and a place to set hot pans. We lay out the grill, burners, sink and refrigeration with room to move and keep smoke away from seating.

Materials that survive weather

Outdoor cabinets use stainless steel, marine-grade polymer or masonry. Countertops need to withstand heat, sun and water, so we steer clients toward granite, quartzite and sealed concrete. Appliances should be outdoor rated.

Gas, power and water

Natural gas or propane, GFCI-protected power and potable water plus drains need planning. Trenches go in before the patio. We coordinate with qualified gas fitters, electricians and plumbers and provide the structure around them.

Cooking safely outdoors

Gas lines, grease and open flame ask for respect. We keep the grill away from combustible surfaces, vent islands correctly and leave clearances around burners. We also advise on keeping the cooking area away from seating and eaves and on grease management.

Questions

Outdoor Kitchens FAQ

How much counter space do I need?

At least twenty-four inches on each side of the grill, plus prep space. We size the layout around how you cook.

Can I use my existing grill?

Often yes. A drop-in grill head is common, and freestanding grills can be integrated into an island.

Will an outdoor kitchen survive winter?

Yes, when built with proper materials and appliances. We detail drains and covers, and advise on winterizing water lines.

Do I need a permit?

Often for gas, electrical and structure. We plan for local requirements and coordinate qualified trades.

Can an outdoor kitchen be covered?

Yes. A pergola or roof gives weather protection, with ventilation planned for smoke and heat.
