Raised vegetable beds, cutting gardens, herb gardens and trellises built in cedar, stone or block with rich soil.
Raised beds beat our native clay. They drain, they warm early in spring, they keep paths and plants separate and they put the soil at a friendly height. For growers who want vegetables, herbs or cut flowers, they are the easy way to get a productive garden.
We build raised beds in cedar, stone and block in the sizes and layouts you need, fill them with a quality soil mix, install paths of gravel or pavers and add trellises, fences and irrigation. We can design a kitchen garden as part of the larger landscape.
Four feet wide is ideal because you can reach the middle from either side. Length is up to you, and paths of two to three feet allow a wheelbarrow. We place beds where they get six to eight hours of sun.
A blend of topsoil, compost and aeration makes beds productive from day one. Good drainage prevents root rot, and a layer of hardware cloth stops gophers and moles where they are a problem.
Vertical growing saves space and makes harvesting easy. Fences keep out deer and rabbits, and drip irrigation saves water and time. We can integrate all three.
Fill beds with fresh soil, add compost each spring and plant what you love. Start with a few easy crops, such as tomatoes, herbs and greens, and expand as you learn the bed. We can leave a planting calendar for Middle Tennessee.
